Art Goes Kapakka is part of the celebration weeks of Helsinki that takes place in August. The main idea is to bring art to various restaurants, pubs and such. Each year there's been a different theme for the art brought on location. 2015 the main focus was on graffiti art.
Artist were given list of all the restaurants participating to the festival by offering their premises for gallerylike use. I chose Elmu’s Bar at Nosturi for a reason. First and foremost Nosturi is a venue for concerts. Many heavy metal bands have performed there, and quite a few bands which I personally like. So, my theme for the exhibition became very clear in the early stages of designing. I’d paint selected amount of logos from bands that have performed at Nosturi.
I chose three different color themes and painted three paintings for each theme. In addition to that, from each band I chose an album that would suite the chosen color theme and name the painting after that release. I chose various elements from the chosen album covers, which I incorporated for the artwork. For example glimpse of scenery in Amorphis-canvas or flames and color fill of band logo for Entombed-canvas.
